I So Want a Genetically Altered Christmas Tree that Illuminates Itself! Come on Science!!

Seriously wouldn't that be awesome.  It would be like having a Christmas tree from Pandora (for those Avatar geeks out there).  No more tangled lights, just fun, hopefully non-toxic illumination fun from the tree itself.  And I'm almost completely positive that these trees will never gain sentience, uproot themselves, and take over the world, enslaving mankind to do their bidding.

Um, yeah, I'm somewhat sure that won't happen.

But according to the article, The science of Christmas: we could grow our own fairy lights, say the tree wise men, bio-luminescent trees may not be far off.
