Apparently we as humans are terrible at predicting the future, specifically in regards to our own personal happiness. A simple test was performed just prior to the 2008 elections, asking several participants, mostly Obama supporters, how they would feel if he won the election. They mentioned that they would be happy and elated.
The day after the election, the participants were asked how they felt, and not all were happy. It was nothing about Obama, it is just, as researchers realized, that our ideas about our future, about what makes us happy are rarely accuracte. Instead it is our underlying personality that controls things, a huge part of us that is largely ignored when making future plans or dreams.
In other words, if you are a happy cheery person, you would remain happy and cheery no matter the outcome of the election. If you were grumpy than you remained grumpy. I simply remained sarcastic.
Taking your personality into the equation may help toward making future decisions, allowing yourself to faithfully predict the outcome, at least ion regards to your happiness or lack there of.
