The theory of macro-evolution commonly suggests that humans began to diverge from their closest animal relatives, the chimpanzee some 5 million years ago, but according to the Eurekalert.org press release, New statistical model moves human evolution back 3 million years, this divergence may have occurred actually at 8 million years.
Pretty cool, although it does deal with statistics, and statistics can be used to prove almost anything; however, it still is a pretty interesting finding in regards to evolution. You can read the actual article here.
