At one level, this sounds like an interesting scientific discovery. How to create viable male and female offspring from two members of the same sex. It can potentially save endangered species from going extinct. It may one day lead to new approaches in combating reproductive issues, and may allow homosexual couples to enjoy the ability to share a genetic offspring.
However, we are messing with something that we really shouldn't be. Everyone should read Y: The Last Man. This is a great graphic novel that follows Yorick and his pet monkey, the last two males on the planet, as he looks for the love of his life. I don't want to give away too much of the story but it really deals with the ramifications of what might happen if we begin truly messing with nature, messing with our reproduction.
If we mess up, their goes the human race.
